PSI Publishes in a Peer-Reviewed Journal

Oct 03, 2016

PSI's CEO Craig Fries, and our Director of 3D Services Joel Panock, are co-authors of a paper that has been accepted in the peer-reviewed Journal of Academic Forensic Pathology. Additional authors on the paper are Dr Judy Melinek, Brodie Butler and Dr. Michelle Jorden.

PSI has been at the forefront of 3D ballistic trajectory analysis for the past decade and has authored many self published case studies, methodology documents and research papers. If you would like to read the complete ballistic trajectory study we published last year, please click here. Further, we have authored articles published in legal trade magazines.

The paper and accompanying animations describe the complex bullet wound path of a fatal shot suffered by a 35-year old woman shot by her estranged husband. The bullet path entered the left chin, exited the right neck, re-entered at the right upper shoulder, exited the right upper arm and then re-entered the left ring finger, giving the appearance on the x-rays that the woman had  “caught the bullet”. PSI used our 3D wound path techniques to trace the wound path and illustrate the likely mechanism of this complex trajectory via 3D animation.
